  • I processed a large chunk of the UI images and put them in a google drive folder if you are interested.

    • Awesome, thanks! I'll let the other admins know so we can get them added in.

      Anyways I wrote down a quick legend for the naming I saw. It is correct at least for the Heroes.

      UC = Uncommon

      R = Rare

      VR = Epic

      SR = Legendary

  • Hi Mechemik.

    Ref. the discussion over at my talk page. As I said, I've noticed the wiki community is kinda lackluster. I checked the activity just now, and the first contributors on Wikia/Fandom except yourself and me I could find was 5 days ago.

    Over at Gamepedia on the other hand, there's been over 500 edits over the last 3 days, and there seem to be several very active users there.

    I must say I absolutely HATE the light text on black background, and though I'm used to the "old" wiki editing software, I did find the Wikia formatting software a very welcoming change (I've never seen any wiki being so user friendly as this one!).

    Anyways... I'm all for "uniting the world". And I would rather see the whole wiki community join their efforts. Two separate wikis is both damaging for the wikis themselves, for the contributors, and most of all for the users.

    So, what do you say - a controversial proposal I know - but... I actually propose to retire this wiki all together, move all efforts over to Gamepedia, and last but not least: fight a brutal war on Gamepedia's light text on black background and their terrible table design of the late 90's.

    P.S. I know you're not the "owner", but you seem to be the most active admin, and the only guy I could think of to run this through. If the majority of active contributors/admins vote on a move, I think that should do it.

    • It is one possibility, although from what I'm seeing, they're the same way: just a couple people making lots of edits in the past few days and yes, someone really needs to fix the aesthetic parts of their site xD As for merging, you'd be better off asking Hatsen as he's the founder of this one. But we could also hold out hope that more editors will arrive once the game becomes free for everyone.

    • Just some stats:

      Gamepedia Wikia
      Number of articles 572 232
      Number of edits, last 3 days: >500 50
      Number of individual contributors, last 3 days: 10 3
      Google search "Fortnite wiki" No. 1 No. 2
      Visual appearance / user friendly No. 2 No. 1

      Regarding holding out: In my opinion, the longer we wait, the more "damage" will be done from splitting the community in two.

  • Hello there, I want to infrom you that this IP has vandalized pages here. Could you review their contributions and take any necessary actions? Thanks!

  • For Save The World locations can you add "Plankerton", "Canny Valley" and "Twine Peaks"? I've already started working on the Canny Valley section. I could get it done in an hour. I was just wandering if its worth editing it, if that section is going to be updated or not.

  • I think the reason you guys didn't bother to customize the badges was because of the frames, so you might want to look at this.

    • Can't say for the others, but for me I'm just "bleh" about badges in general.

  • Heya ;)

    Wanted to get a quick consensus on the best presentation of table data for the subclasses pages. While it likely doesn't matter a huge bit for desktop how things are presented given the available space, my focus was on making things look good cross-platform.

    I compared the two pages (Hotfixer and Electro-pulse) on mobile. The first difference is that the Hotfixer page has a lot of empty space within its table; also, users are forced to switch their view to landscape to see everything at once. The other issue is that the star icon w/number can't really be seen, which could lead to some confusion. The ability/perk icons are going to be tiny either way.

    For the Electro-pulse page, however, there's not a lot of empty space within the table cells, presenting a more compact experience with minimal scrolling between entries. Because the data is confined to two columns, users have the option of looking at it either in portrait or landscape - the quality remains the same in both. Typing out the evolution/level removes any ambiguity the star icon might present.

    That being said, you are the admin ;) I'm planning on going through all the class and subclass pages, so wanted to get something concrete before really moving forward at full speed.

    Best regards,

    Raylan

    (P.S. - I forced the TOC up so people would know there's more on the page :P )

    • From my experience, tables never played nicely with mobile and has been the bane of my existence since I started editing on wikia (I gave up after having tables with 8 columns). Ideally I wish we had a way to force the tables to either display differently on mobile or a way to hide/show depending on what platform someone was viewing it with but the only way I know is a div format and it's not very optimal in some cases (like if someone wants to see all the skill names first, they wouldn't be able to).

      Assuming you don't know anything that could help with that though, I'm all ears on ways to make it better. :) The main problem with those on computers is that in the 2 column format, the sorting option becomes useless as it tries to sort by the image first, putting them out of alphabetical order. As for the stars, I can't remember where I saw it, but there's a way to add some text that only those on mobile will see it. The kicker is, the image will still appear (unless I can dig up the code on that as well).

      As for the TOC, I just removed it as it was no longer necessary (once there's 4 headers/subheaders it automatically pops up anyways).

    • Yeah, tables are the bane of my existence as well, being an admin over on WoWWiki :P There's no way some of those are going to be shrunk down over there.

      I took a poke at marrying our two visions together on the Hotfixer page. The columns are down to three, which should help to minimize horizontal scroll on mobile. At the same time, the first two columns are sortable (and sorting correctly).

      To avoid confusion with the numbers and stars-within-numbers, I merely added "Evo" after the stars. Now it doesn't matter that the star icons don't show clearly on mobile.

      I forced the TOC back up the page; I know it automatically shows, but where it places it is out of view unless users scroll down.

      Hopefully this works :) I'm planning on building out all the subclass pages and will likely carry over the same format to the class pages as well.

  • Hi there! So I've recently looked around the wiki and while the wiki does seem very well made, I do have 1 piece of advice: Do you think you could create a staff page for the wiki and pin it to the Top Navigation section, preferably in the "Community" tab? This is just from my standpoint, sometimes the wiki not having a staff lineup makes it so I don't know who is representing the wiki, you can take a look at this staff page if you are confused. I hope that helps!

  • I left an edit summary about yanking the level parameter :P There should really only be one infobox on the page, otherwise they annoyingly stack in mobile. The number of times a character can be evolved is tied directly to rarity, so listing the rarities and then popping in a quick "max evolutions" section makes everything more succinct. ;) Rarity-related skins are placed at the bottom of the page.

    • That's what I was thinking :P I was confused when I first started playing, so had to do some digging to fully understand. Hopefully we've got it clear here. I added the info to the second paragraph of the Heroes page ;)
