Emotes are cosmetic items available in Fortnite. They enable the player to perform a short action, which involves the player character moving to act it out. Emotes were first introduced in Save The World, but massively expanded upon with the release of Battle Royale.

They can be used in Battle Royale, Fortnite Festival and some of them are available in LEGO Fortnite.

Description[]

Emotes are short actions which are performed by the player character. Emotes involve the player character acting out one of several actions, such as a Dance, an Emotion, a Greeting or other movements. Emotes offer no in game advantage, and often disadvantage players with limited movement capabilities. Emotes can be purchased in the Item Shop using V-Bucks, unlocked in the Battle Pass or obtained via various in game and outside of the game promotions.

Emotes are categorised into several types:

  • Standard: The player character will perform an action and be unable to move very far without said action ending.
  • Traversal: The player will be able to move slowly forwards whilst performing the action.
  • Built-In: The emote is exclusive to an outfit or vehicle, this emote can be of any type (Traversal, Standard etc.)
  • Synced: Two or more players can take part in the emote at the same time, sometimes performing a unique function by doing so.
